Material Handler/Forklift Operator
As a Material Handler/ Forklift Operator, you will be responsible for operating a forklift to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise. In addition to forklift operations, this role includes kitting—sorting, organizing, and obtaining parts for production jobs—as well as issuing and restocking parts in the parts room. You’ll perform these duties safely and efficiently while adhering to all operational and safety guidelines.
Responsibilities:
• Identifies and transports requested materials to and from various departments including machines, trucks, and storage areas.
• Obtains production schedule and/or shipping orders and identifies, verifies, and transports requested raw materials, equipment, or processing materials accordingly.
• Performs kitting activities by sorting, verifying, and organizing required parts for specific jobs based on work orders and blueprints to ensure all materials are ready for production.
• Issues parts and restocks inventory in the parts room, maintaining proper organization and accurate stock levels.
• Ensures prompt and efficient delivery of required items.
• Reports any problems with materials or transportation to supervisor.
• Maintains the organization and cleanliness of the warehouse and parts room areas.
• Manages and piles drums, skids, pallets, and other supplies in specified areas.
• Performs daily pre-operational safety inspection of forklift.
• Services equipment as needed, reporting mechanical or electrical difficulties to truck mechanic.
• Performs other related duties as requested.
• Always adheres to safety procedures and guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of hazardous materials.
Time Allocation:
• Approximately 40% forklift operation
• Approximately 30% kitting activities
• Approximately 30% parts room operations (issuing and restocking)
Requirements:
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work orders to identify and obtain required parts.
• Ability to complete various activities in the warehouse that may require hours of lifting, standing, and carrying.
• Ability to maintain single-task focus and situational awareness.
• Ability to move and lift up to 50-pound skids or pallets.
• Basic math, language, and reading skills.
• Ability to handle equipment and vehicles safely and sensibly.
• Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Satisfactorily pass forklift driving training program or demonstrate safe handling of forklift in an on-site test
